– The RIVET Team
Tell us a little about yourself, Adam!
I was born in Michigan and raised in the metro-Detroit area by my adoptive parents. My mother passed away when I was very young, so it was just me and my father until he re-married. My time with him shaped many of my interests.
I attended Adrian College right out of high school, but quickly realized the college could not offer me what I really wanted to do which was producing music. As a result, I transferred to the Recording Institute of Detroit to pursue an education in audio engineering. After graduating, I learned that making music is not the most lucrative career so I pursued a career in sales when a sales opportunity landed in my lap. I jumped around sales positions in various industries over the past decade which essentially led me to a Customer Success role with RIVET.
Tell us about your role in Customer Success at RIVET.
In Customer Success at RIVET, I help organizations get up and running within the application. Whether it’s help with uploading data or inviting their whole field, the Customer Success team is a utility intended to make the transition to a digital solution as smooth and enjoyable as possible. I really enjoy being able to help people understand things and feel comfortable.
Why did you join RIVET, and what are you most excited about?
I read a Purpose Jobs article talking about the best start-ups in Detroit and RIVET was listed. After reading about the company more, I found that the problem RIVET was solving within the construction industry was unfamiliar to me despite having a deeper understanding of the skilled trades. The opportunity to digitally transform an industry was a challenge to me and I wanted to take that on.
What are you passionate about?
I am most passionate about music! My dad is blind so growing up we didn’t watch movies very often. Instead, he introduced me to all his favorite music growing up. As mentioned above, I tried to pursue a career in it, but that didn’t work out. However, I met some amazing people along the way. I recorded my own music back in 2007-2012, but then took a long hiatus to find a career I could make money at. I recently completed a year-long artistic exercise where I released 149 songs in the year and recorded 60,050 words. I then compiled data on the lyrics to understand which words I used the most, themes throughout the year and word count and compared it to other forms of media, like famous novels.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I like to spend it with my wife, Jackie, mess around with my keyboard and drum set, and listen to comedy. My favorite comedians are Taylor Tomlinson, Nate Bargatze and Hannibal Buress.
I also love to cook. During the time of my life when I wasn’t focused on music very much, I really got into cooking. I took cooking classes, learned from YouTube videos, and watched a bunch of cooking shows. I also spend a lot of time in Reddit reading about chefs and living vicariously through them by imagining what it would be like if I worked in a professional kitchen. Additionally, by joining RIVET, I gained a lot of team members who are into cooking and are foodies as well so it’s awesome to have a group to share this passion with.
