30% No-Show Rate. Crews Missing 13 Days a Month. K2 Electric Got It Down to 2-3 Days Automatically.

THE CHALLENGE
K2 Electric operates across the Phoenix and Tucson corridor, managing a workforce that can swing from steady-state to 200% capacity when scope creep or project acceleration hits. The pendulum swings constantly. One quarter they're loaning out labor; the next they're scrambling to staff up for a data center with strict compliance requirements.
Before RIVET, the workforce planner spent entire Fridays—sometimes bleeding into Saturdays—manually creating text messages with start times, addresses, and job specifics. Every message required punching individual phone numbers into a personal cell phone. There was no central record, no way to verify delivery, and no system to track who actually showed up.
The absenteeism problem was even worse. Leadership knew attendance was an issue, but they couldn't prove it. Workers were missing four to thirteen days a month, and without consistent tracking, there was no way to identify repeat offenders or hold anyone accountable. As Brian put it: "I've never seen a job go south for any other reason than labor from a profitability standpoint." Labor was their highest risk, and they were flying blind.
"30% of our workforce was missing 4 to 13 days a month—and we had no way to prove it. Once we held our team accountable to operating in RIVET, that changed. Repeat offenders dropped to 2 or 3 days. That was the first step."

OUR SOLUTION
K2 Electric implemented RIVET as their single platform for workforce visibility, communication, and accountability. The transformation happened in three areas.
Automated Communication at Scale
RIVET replaced the manual Friday text marathon with automated notifications. Workers receive schedule updates, job site addresses, and start times without the workforce planner typing a single message. What used to take eight or more hours now happens automatically.
Accountability Through Visibility
With every worker operating in RIVET, K2 finally had consistent data on who was late and who was absent. They built a process where missing a certain number of days triggers a conversation and potential documentation to HR. The workforce planner pulls the report monthly, sends it to general foremen, and repeat offenders get addressed immediately. The system didn't change behavior through surveillance—it changed behavior through transparency.
Geographic and Compliance Optimization
For a project in Casa Grande—sixty miles from the average worker's home in south Phoenix—the workforce planner used RIVET's map view to identify workers who lived closer. This reduced per-mile travel reimbursements and cut down on complaints. For data center projects with strict compliance requirements, K2 uses tags to track drug screening, safety certifications, and install capabilities so they can instantly filter who's eligible to step on site.
Integrations / Tool Stack
- Spectrum (ERP): All employee data pulls from Spectrum into RIVET automatically
- Tag System: Custom tags for data center eligibility, certifications, performance review updates, and install capabilities (rigid conduit, EMT, etc.)
ROADBLOCKS
The first challenge was adoption. RIVET only works if the field actually uses it. K2 made operating in RIVET non-negotiable. Once general foremen and workers were consistently logging time and attendance through the system, the data became reliable. That reliability is what made accountability possible.
The second challenge is one RIVET can't solve: general contractors who can't hold a schedule. Every time a GC moves the schedule, the savings from pre-planning get disrupted. K2 has accepted this as part of the business, but it means the value of workforce planning is always partially at the mercy of external coordination.
"The culture of K2 really is about relationships with our people... if we're not providing them the tools to make their job as easy and as seamless as possible, we're not doing them any justice."

NEXT STEPS
K2 is watching RIVET's development closely, particularly around task-level management and historical data tracking. As the platform evolves to capture more granular production data and maintain longer historical records, K2 plans to use that information for even more precise bidding and forecasting.
The company also continues to expand its use of tags for performance tracking. Every six months during performance reviews, install capabilities get updated in RIVET so leadership can see skill progression across the workforce over time.

RIVET connects directly with Spectrum, Vista, Viewpoint, Foundation, Sage, COINs, CMIC, and other major construction ERPs through pre-built integrations. We automatically sync job budgets, schedules, and worker data, eliminating double data entry. Most integrations are completed within 1-2 weeks during implementation.
RIVET is designed for construction operations teams, not tech experts. We've helped many superintendents near retirement giving them hours in the day back. Hands-on white glove training with real people ensures your team will always get the support they need.
Most contractors see immediate task-based time savings in scheduling within the first few months. Labor planning impacts and reduction in margin fade from productivity killers takes longer to show up in the numbers, but you will feel the difference.
Most contractors using RIVET have more than 50 field employees performing construction work. We work with some of the largest contractors in the country, planning and scheduling thousands of field personnel. If you're currently managing workforce scheduling with spreadsheets, whiteboards, or phone calls, and have multiple projects running simultaneously, RIVET is for you.
Your data belongs to you. RIVET provides complete data export capabilities in standard formats, and we'll work with you to ensure a smooth transition if you decide to leave.
RIVET was purpose built for electrical and mechanical contractors, and is based on the workforce management best practices of the most successful MEP contractors. RIVET is an active partner with NECA, SMACNA, and construction research organizations like ELECTRI, supporting their standards, SOPs, and best practices in our platform and in our trainings. RIVET is focused exclusively on making labor operations efficient rather than trying to solve every construction problem. While we started by serving MEP, RIVET also has tremendous value for other contracting business' self-performing interior trades on vertical construction projects.
